Become a Business Coach
There are coaches for nearly everything
in life You have personal coaches, training
coaches, team coaches and even nutrition
coaches. If you have something you need
to do, there is a coach to fill that task.
However, there is also another coach that
can prove very important to a company, and
that is a business coach. A business coach
provides support and advice to an individual
or group in order to help them organize in a
way that will increase the effectiveness of
the business.
The Concept
Business coaching can be done in a variety
of ways, including one-on-one, group
coaching and large-scale seminars. You can
expect that a business will call on you when
things are going badly and sales are
suffering. They will want you to come and
make the business successful again through
tutoring and coaching individuals and groups
in the company.
This is not to say that business coaching is
mentoring. The truth is that a mentor
involves a developmental relationship
between an experienced individual and a less
experienced individual. A business coach can
act as a mentor since they will have
experience, but they do not have to have
business expertise and experience in the
same field as those they are coaching.
The process involved in business coaching is
one of inquiry, analysis, contemplation and
resolution with the intention of furthering
the development of the business, and the
individuals in the business. It involves
many questions to the business individuals,
so you as the business coach can determine a
coarse of action to take.
Startup Costs
Startup costs for this type of career path
is minimal. However, you should make sure
you have at least some background in
business to prove effective for the business
aspects you will have to understand as part
of your coaching process.
As part of your career path, you should
think about getting training as a coach so
you can understand the different methods
that are used in the business coaching
world. Contact the International Association
of Coaching (IAC) and the International
Coaching Federation (ICF) for more
information on the many programs they offer,
along with the costs of membership and the
courses.
How to Market It
Marketing this business comes down to
networking. You want to be able to network
with businesses in your area, and around the
world, so that when there is a problem, they
are able to call you in and get you to fix
it. Visit business seminars, trade shows and
more to pass out business cards, brochures
and flyers. Newspaper advertising would be
ineffective in this situation, so shy away
from it. If you have experience in the
business world, use it and use the
connections your fostered there to get ahead
and further your company.
You can also think about advertising in
trade magazines that are geared towards the
type of business you want to be a business
coach in. Targeting the right market is key
to being successful in your business
coaching career.
