Everyone may need a coach from time to
time and there is no shame in it. A
coach on a sports team is there to guide you
in your pursuit of sporting excellence. A
coach at a gym is there to help you attain
your personal best, and a business coach is
there to help you reach your full business
potential. Think of a life coach the same
way, someone who is helping to turn you into
a person who can realize their dreams and
attain the goals they set for themselves.
Life coaches are incredibly popular for
business men and women, sports stars and
anyone else who wants to learn how to reach
their full potential. Choosing to become a
life coach is one of the best careers and
individual can get into these days.
The Concept
Life coaching is often confused with
therapy, but those who practice and perform
life coaching say they are entirely
different. While both focus on helping
clients discover their own solutions,
therapy is usually analysis- or
problem-focused. Therapy discovers the roots
of issues and is a long-term process to
allow the client to move forward. Coaching
is evidence-based, and they use techniques
that help the client, not look at the root
of issues, but look at the future and what
they want to accomplish. Then, they look at
what is holding them back and deal with it
in an effort to attain their goals.
With life coaching, the life coach does not
have to be an expert in whatever the client
wants to reach their goals on. They simply
have to know what to ask a client, and how
to teach them to reach their goals, no
matter what sector or field those goals may
be in.
Startup Costs
Costs for this, as with many career changes,
does not stem from starting up the business,
because it can be done from your home, or
the clients home. The start up costs here
are associated with learning how to be a
life coach and where to get accreditation.
Typically, you can learn how to be a life
coach at life coaching seminars in your
area, which often cost about $100 to $500 to
attend and learn from. At this point, you
can coach others, to reach their potential.
However, if you really want to get the best
clients you can, and look professional at
the same time, you need accreditation. This
can be attained from the three standard
accreditation bodies that are
internationally recognized: the
International Coach Federation, the
International Association of Coaching and
the European Coaching Institute.
Accreditation from these places can range
from a few hundred, to a few thousand
dollars depending on how in-depth you get
with your accreditation.
How to Market It
The best way to market this is comes in two
forms. First, hold your own small seminar in
your local area. The people that come out
will listen to you and hopefully you will
get a few clients from it. Even if you don’t
word of mouth might help advertise your
services.
Second, you can approaching business people
and sales people at local companies and see
if they are looking for someone who can help
them attain their business dreams.
Since so many people are on the lookout for
life coaches, you can also advertise in the
paper and phone book. You never know when
someone may need some life coaching and come
across your ad. It doesn’t hurt to try.
