began in 1981 as a direct
sales beauty products
company that relies on a
sales party technique to
sell makeup, fragrances, and
home spa products. The
company, headquartered in
Dallas, Texas, has largely
kept up this business model.
BeautiControl sales reps
hold in-home parties to
demonstrate the products,
and can then sell their
physical inventory to
clients or take orders for
more products. Parties can
be held in the sales
person's home, or it can be
held at the home of a
hostess.
The start-up kit is $125,
which includes training
materials as well as some
sample products for
demonstrations. After the
start-up training, there are
several different kits
available. Most of these
kits are priced at around
$175 for a large assortment
of products. There is a
purchase requirement to
remain an active sales rep-
at least $100 must be spent
every three months.
Sales reps gets discount on
the items they order, which
they then resell at the full
retail price. The discount
depends on the amount of
items ordered, but ranges
from 25 - 50%. There are
also sale items that are
regularly offered to reps
for a deeper discount. The
discounts are set at 50% for
all products if the rep can
keep four sales people in
her downline. If sales are
$450 or more for the month,
sales reps also get 4% of
their downline's orders for
that month.
