In 2006,
Reader’s Digest Association, Inc. opened this direct sales subsidiary of their
Taste of Home magazine. Taste of Home Entertaining, Inc. is off to a great
start, with an experienced management team and 7000 consultants in their first
year. They offer over 250 products that are designed with a combination of
beauty, function, and quality. The Taste of Home catalog includes cookware,
cutlery, kitchen tools, tableware, entertaining pieces, home décor, cookbooks,
and magazines. Many of their items are designed by celebrity chef Mario Batali
exclusively for Taste of Home. All products must be purchased from Taste of Home
consultants.
The $199 starter kit contains over $650 worth of products and business
materials. Consultants sell primarily through home parties, but are also
encouraged to use other sales opportunities such as catalog parties, bridal
showers, corporate sales, and fundraisers. Consultants keep 25% of their retail
sales and send the rest to the company. They have the opportunity to earn 2% -
10% of their personal sales and their downline sales when they build a team.
There are no sales minimums to earn commissions, but consultants must enter at
least $500 in sales for the month to earn royalties. The minimum is lowered by
20% during the slow months of June, July, and December to allow consultants earn
royalties more often. The company has two annual trips, one for all consultants
and one for directors only. They also offer the chance to earn a Lexus through
the ‘”Lux-you-rious” car program.
