There are many
businesses you can have and there are a lot you can make money from, but there
are few that you can call truly rewarding. When you start a drug and alcohol
counseling business, you are entering into a rewarding career that makes lives,
and the world, better. Through your efforts helping people with their
addictions, you make the world a better place, and what you make is immaterial
to what you gain through friendships and feelings of well-being for doing good
things.
This type of job is one that sadly always has business because people are often
looking for an escape from life. As a result, you will always have business in
that you will be providing this counseling to addicts.
The Concept
This type of business is different from
others, in that your customers do not really
pay you for your services. It is hard to get
someone who is down and out and on drugs (or
recovering from them) to pay you each time
they come in. That is not how counseling
works. As a result, you will receive your
funding from the government, who want to get
addicts off the street and into better
pieces of the society puzzle.
With this funding, you are paid a salary
that will allow you to help people. It is a
very rewarding career to have but it is
difficult. You will be dealing with some
very down and out people, and it can be
stressful when you fail in keeping them off
liquor or drugs. However, there are times
you help someone get their life back, and
that in itself, is worth the business.
Startup Costs
You need to have a degree in addiction
counseling, and that will cost a few
thousand dollars. However, that is where the
costs end. After you have your degree and
your program has been approved by the
government, then you can purchase your
office space, materials and everything else
you will need. This is a great choice for a
business in that the government pays a lot
of the costs for you through grants and
donations. Once you get past your degree,
you will have costs of about $0 for the rest
of the time. That is a good business to be
in.
How to Market It
Marketing this business isn’t so much
getting customers, as it is finding those
who need help. You will have to do up a
proposal for the government to get the
funding you need, but once you have it, you
will be okay on that end. Afterwards, it is
up to you to go out and find those in need
of help and bring them into your umbrella.
Sometimes the government will have people
come to you, but you will also be putting up
posters in downtown, drug-riddled areas,
along with homeless shelters, to garner up
people who you can help. For many in this
type of career, there would be nothing
better than not having any clients at all,
because that means addiction is no longer a
problem in our society.
