Proofreader Business

A proofreader is someone that is in high demand, in advertising, writing, and just about any business. To start a proofreading business is easy. All you will need is the talent of being able to quickly and efficiently scan over works of writing and check for spelling mistakes and grammar errors.

A proofreader business will need little or no capital to start with, but an internet connection is a must nowadays in this business. Some people are able to find jobs as proofreaders in large publishing companies and other corporations. You will need to study writing, editing or proofreading in some form whether it is at a college or through a correspondence course.

This will teach you basic grammatical usage, spelling faults and other typical mistakes that people make when writing a document. A proofreader business can take a lot of work and be fairly stressful especially at a newspaper or advertising agency when there is a deadline to work against.

Keep persisting and sending samples away and eventually you will build up a client base that will regularly send you manuscripts, documents, articles and essays to be proofread. This is all you will need; your talent and a means by which to get and sustain clients and receive work. Most proofreader businesses are freelancers who work for many people on different projects. If you become a proofreader at a firm then you will be a permanent staff member and only proofread for them.

To start off with you should get a portfolio together of work you have done before or if you do not have this, then include samples of before and after your proofreading skills have been used. You should advertise your proofreader business with as many companies and websites as possible. You could also start your own website once you have built up enough money.
