Starting Your Own Pet Sitting Business

If you enjoy taking care of animals, you might consider starting your very own pet sitting business. The idea of such a business is to provide your services to people who travel or work long hours by offering to take care of their pets. This is typically done in their homes, which offers several advantages.

The first advantage to hiring a pet sitter is that the pet owner can travel without having to pay an expensive kennel service to watch his or her pets. Another advantage is that pets are able to remain in their own homes, keeping them relaxed and content in a familiar environment.

Generally, pet owners will leave special instructions for their pet sitter, including feeding instructions and schedules, information about what supplies are needed, and if/how often pets should be let outside. Dog owners may also leave instructions outlining at what hours to walk the dog and for how long.

There are several ways to start your own pet sitting business. Some pet sitters prefer to receive training before they begin advertising their services. During such training, a sitter will learn how to care for various types of animals, what to do in case of a pet-related emergency, and what types of supplies they might need for their business. Oftentimes, a pet sitter might start out working for someone else before venturing out and starting his or her own company.

There are various supplies needed for a pet sitting business. You might consider keeping an animal first-aid kit on hand in case it is needed, as well as various types of kennels, cages, and pet carriers. You may also want to have various pet toys and different types of food for different animals. Most pet sitters don’t keep a large stock; oftentimes the sitter will purchase supplies as needed, only buying a particular item when asked by a particular pet owner to do so.

Pet sitting can be a fun business, and can be a great endeavor for a person who loves to care for and spend time with animals. Pet sitting can also teach an animal lover how to properly care for a variety of animals. What better way is there to learn about the pets you love while making money at the same time?
