Tips for Setting Up Your First eBay
Auction Listing
Whether you have simply decided to sell
an item or two on eBay, or you intend to
follow the millions of people who are making
money on eBay by opening your own store, you
will need to take steps to ensure that your
first auction listing shines. One of the
most important things for any eBay seller is
learning how to create the most interesting
and attractive listing for their auction
items. Having a good listing can make the
difference between making money and failing
in your new business venture.
One of the first things to consider when
creating your first listing is the item
description. Make your description as
complex as it can be without going
overboard. Ensure that you list everything
about the product, including any faults.
Mention the color, size, condition, any
tears, cracks, or repairs, and any
additional information that customers would
be interested to know.
In the past, using photos on eBay listings
was optional. These days, it’s practically a
necessity. It is always best to have photos
-- the more the better -- of your item,
especially if you are selling clothing,
furniture, jewelry, or another item that
people will want to view before bidding. Try
to have good quality photos taken and give
views from as many different angles as
possible.
Another thing to consider when listing your
first item is price. When you are setting
your starting bid amount, it’s usually best
to not set the price too high. The more
popular you think the product will be, the
lower the starting price should be to
encourage bidders. Do not place reserves on
your items, as this will tend to turn many
bidders away. You could also choose to
include a market value price to show bidders
how much they would pay for a similar item
if they were to purchase it in a store.
The last thing to consider when listing an
item is timing. When you are setting up more
than one listing, do not schedule them to
end at the exact same time. Instead,
schedule them to end a few minutes apart
from each other to give bidders time to view
all of your items, and, if they would like
to purchase more than one, go from one
auction to the next.
Once you have set up your auctions, you
should be prepared to answer any questions
from bidders. Always be friendly, helpful,
and answer and promptly as possible. It is
also a good idea to offer free shipping and
insurance on very expensive items. This will
create mutual goodwill with your customers.
You should also be courteous and offer a
money back guarantee in case there are
faults with the products that were not
included on you listing. Good luck!
